Exterior Painting in Shuswap Lake

We paint stucco, siding and trim on homes and cabins around Shuswap Lake. Rain, snow and frost shape the plan, so we prep every wall and paint when the surface is dry and the air is mild.

How We Handle Exterior Painting in Shuswap Lake

Shuswap Lake country is wetter than many parts of the Interior. Environment Canada's Celista station on the north shore records about 739 mm of precipitation a year, including about 224 cm of snow, and the Salmon Arm airport station records 653 mm. Rain peaks in May and June, with another wet spell in October and November. For a house exterior, dry surfaces matter more than the date on the calendar.

The frost-free season is long enough to work with. At the Salmon Arm station, the average last spring frost is May 13 and the first fall frost is September 30, about four and a half months. We visit, give a clear, itemized written quote for stucco, siding and trim, and set dates once colors are confirmed. We mask, sand, patch and caulk before painting, and you inspect the finish with us at the end.

Local Knowledge

Rain, snow and a longer paint season at the lake

At the Salmon Arm station, highs pass 30°C about 19 times a year, mostly in July and August, and nights still freeze on about 11 nights in April and 11 in October. Paint needs a dry surface and mild air. Wet May and June weather can close the window for a stretch, and cold October mornings can close it again. That is why the order of walls and the choice of day matter more here than the month.

Look at the sides of your home that stay shaded or damp. North walls, wood near the ground and trim under roof edges tend to hold moisture longest. Cabot says heavy roof snow that melts and forms ice dams at the eaves can push water into walls. With about 224 cm of snow at Celista, check the eaves each spring, then tell us what you find.

Common Questions

Exterior Painting Questions in Shuswap Lake

At the Salmon Arm station, August has the least summer precipitation, about 38 mm, with July and September a little higher. May and June are wetter. The average last spring frost is May 13 and the first fall frost is September 30.

It can. Cabot lists heavy roof snow that melts and forms ice dams at the eaves among the ways water gets into walls, and that water lifts paint from behind. Celista gets about 224 cm of snow a year. We check eaves and trim during the visit.

They can. Salmon Arm passes 30°C about 19 times a year, and North Shuswap has abundant sunshine, says Destination BC. Cabot notes that blistering and peeling most often show up on south and west walls, where the sun speeds up moisture damage.

They can slow it. Celista has more than 12 nights at or below freezing in April and about 11 in October, and Salmon Arm has about 11 in each month. Cold, damp surfaces are a poor base for paint, so we start later in the morning.
